The Passing of Time

i’ve been fortunate enough to have spent the past 2 weeks at home, practicing social-distancing and isolating to #flattenthecurve. as someone who is used to working/spending most of my time at home, i thought this would be a breeze — it hasn’t been.

i wanted to share what i’ve been doing at home to make me feel grounded, at ease, or at least a little more human. i’ve been seeing a lot of push online to be super-productive and i hope this post can help you feel less stressed; and maybe remind you to give yourself time, relax, and take things day by day.

we are living in very strange and stressful times, and there’s no need to act super-human.

here is how i’ve made my heavy heart feel a bit lighter during these unprecedented times.

learning to make bread.

with the unfortunate death of our sourdough starter (and my love of toast/lack of bread), i decided to learn how to make a simple no-knead bread. i found this recipe and it’s rising as we speak. *fingers crossed*

*update* TRY THIS RECIPE! ADD A LIL MORE SALT! we ate the entire loaf for dinner and it was the fluffiest, crispiest, yummiest bread ever. 10/10 recommend.

i wear these hand-knit slippers that finn made me everyday. they are so cozy and remind me of my best friend <3

cleaning the apartment — slowly, but surely.

drinking lots of tea & coffee.

i’m lucky to be isolating with someone who is super passionate about coffee. i’ve been making little ~flat whites~ with our aeropress/french press and it’s been satisfying my foamy-coffee cravings. i just make super strong coffee in the aeropress (my fav rn is this peruvian from quietly) and froth some oat milk in our french press! super easy and yummy.

finishing all the books i’ve started.

i just finished ‘the year of magical thinking’ by joan didion. next up: ‘spring’ by ali smith.

taking care of my plants.

this whole time i thought my philadendron was a pothos… i hope it’ll forgive me.

getting dressed! wearing jewelry!

this makes such a huge difference in my mood for the day. even if i just put on a new sweatshirt and my everyday hoops/rings, i feel a lil more fresh.

opening the curtains.

going for walks.

morning yoga

i started a 30-day yoga ‘challenge’ which i’ve been loving (here’s a link). though i’m trying to be less strict with *daily* activities because sometimes ya just need a day off!

sleeping in. i usually hate sleeping in but hey, it feels so good.

making the bed, the only strict daily ritual i do.

making lists; colour names, products i want to try, things i did each day, recipes i want to try, etc.

saving to my ig collections. honestly one of my fav mindless things to do.
